Fly fishing trip UK

Fly fishing trip UK - How about getting some boats and before hand old smoothound gives us a few hour tutoring ( paided ) and then we have a fly fishing meet

Just wondering if anyone would be into it

Would be a few quid as tuition is not cheap but better to learn from the best and boats might be fun

Good idea Richard but "novice" fly fisherman in boats - sure would be good fun and blue air .

If you want fun;fine.
If you want to learn to fly cast; start on grass.

What's the guru say - I await his comments

Cool Re: Fly fishing trip UK

Hi guys,

Sorry been busy earning a crust!!

Can I make a suggestion.... don't put novices in a boat with a sharp thing attached to the end of his/her line...spells.... a trip to the hospital to have it surgically removed!

But on a serious note.

Best place to learn how to cast a fly is on a small stillwater, grass is ok but the best way is over water, it's more forgiving, and you go away with a trout if you can catch it.

I would have complete average novices casting a fly line with fly in half a days tuition i.e. 4-6 hours.

Once the cast is learnt then we could move onto boats, but with an experienced fly fisher at the helm.

You don't have to cast far from a boat 20 yards plus is fine to find fish, so novices can do well.

If guys are up for it then i will give the tuition at a reduced and very special Forum Peeps Members discount. Plus i will supply all the flies, Rods, lines etc for those who do not have any.

Oh and we could have a barbie and a few sherbets to go with the freshly caught trout!

Just let me know when.

Re: Fly fishing trip UK

Hi Smoothy,

Great idea - I've got a couple of spare rods and reels that peeps can use; if needed.

Come on guys, and any gals, lets 'fluff chuck', bbq and party.

When and where ???

Cool Re: Fly fishing trip UK

Hi Paul,

What I am suggesting is that those who can't or have little experience of casting can have an advance lesson or lessons. Then we can all meet up for a proper Fluff Chucking day on say Blagdon Lake or another venue and a barbie.

Its just that complete novices should not go out in a boat armed with a fly rod and flies and expect to catch fish first time out, and not get a hook stuck in their face or back of their head.

Safety is of paramount importance.
