First fly successfully tied!!

Wooly Bugger, now occupying a place of honor in the fly box, awaiting finer weather. Its not perfect, but pretty good for a first attempt, if I do say so myself. Messed up the hackle a bit, poor selection on my part, a bit too "fluffy" Other than that, I think it came out pretty well. Well, I congratulate myself

Well Done Hunter..

The first fly is always the best one you will ever tie! Maybe not the prettiest, but certainly the best and the one you will never forget when you catch your first fish on it

Very well done.

I tie 90% of my flies, copying patterns from photo's. Catching on your own creation is a real buzz.

Hi mate,

I quite agree I haven't bought a fly for years, I scan the web and magazines for patterns to tie, then improve them if i can and sometimes i get to use them and catch fish!
I get more joy from inventing my own flies and giving them a go...if they don't work...well what the hell.

Trouble is now I have upteen boxes of flies too many to take with me fishing, so only ever take one box Saltwater fly fishing and maybe 3 boxes when Trout fishing. 1 for dry flies 1 for nymphs and a nasties box full of gaudy lures

There is no better feeling than catching fish on your own flies.

And I can wait to feel that feeling...

Now if only this dread winter weather would go away so I could cast that precious fly, well then life would be grand
