Help!!!

Having been watching the fly fishers when i have been up the fisheries i am not looking to give it a bash. Looking to buy a rod, reel etc but don't really know where to start. It will mostly be for trout in lochs and reservoirs.

What size of rod should i look at?
What does the "#1, 2, 3, 5/6" part mean?
How do i pick a reel to match the rod??

There lots more i need to know so any help is appreciated.

Was looking to buy a reasonable 2nd hand rod from ebay or such as apposed to a starter kit.
