| The monnowthon THE MONNOWTHON... Anyone up for a challenge? A crazy idea - to fish the entire length of the river Monnow from its mouth at the Wye to (near) its source at Craswall - a distance of over 40 miles. Hard enough to walk that far in waders but to fish along the way - "it's completely mad". However if thereby we can succeed in raising some funds to help our work on the river, the pain will be worthwhile: this year, for instance, we are pledging to clear to Honddu of Himalayan Balsam in a start of our aim to eradicate the wretched weed from the whole Monnow catchment; we are continuing to improve the in-stream habitat for fish by laying in of Large (& Coarse) Woody Debris and encouraging the regeneration of Ranunculus, once prolific but sadly now lacking from much of the river; we are planning to introduce some local school children to the creatures they can find in their local streeams thereby hopefully creating a new generation that cares about the health of its watercourses; we will continue to try to open up new opportunities for publically available fishing on our system, bringing income to owners (some of whom had forgotten the potential value of their river) and local businesses. We are making huge progress "improving" our river and with your help we can do more. It's easy to contribute - just go online to www.justgiving.com/monnow and make a donation. Thanks for your support, Patrick Lloyd & Robert Denny PS. Please forward this to as many people as possible - thanks The Monnowthon - in aid of The Wild Trout Trust and The Monnow Fisheries Association __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
