How Am I Doing ??:)

i am a ameatur fly fisherman and i have only been fly fishing twice now and on my first visit i caught a 2 pound rainbow anyway on my seconed vist i caught 3 rainbows a 2,2 and a half and 3 pound rainbows. I would just like to know how i am doing if im off to a good start or am i a slow beginner.

ps can you help with all the windnots im getting ive had quite a few and i dont know how i get them thanks guys

Welcome to the forum, you are doing great. Here is an 8lb+ rainbow caught by me in dec 09, i had 6 fish for over 50lb. Since christmas 09(as i dont put all my fish on forum) i have had well over 50 rainbows on the fly probably more but that is a ruff guess. Remember you are always learning, and there are guys fly fishing many years that wouldnt have a days like youve just had, you will catch many and you will blank many who cares as long as that fly is in the water you have every chance. My best is 42 in 1 day but that was in a boat on a very small lake. Tight lines. Ps wind knots are only to do with your casting, dont worry about it, just take off a foot off your leader. I fish 12 foot, 15 foot and 20 foot leaders but im fishing a while, try say 8-10 foot see how you get on, then as time gets on and you start to get better make it a longer so on and so forth.

Sounds like you are doing ok, the wind knots are a result of casting technique , a shorter leader will help but the long term solution is to have a few casting lessons with a professional ,a good investment at this time , find one here:
