Miles is on a distinguished road
Re: Fly tying advice?

I think its worth practising on some larger hooks first - size 4 or something. I'm not sure if you'll ever fish with such a large fly, but I find the smaller sizes (which catch the fish) are fiddly to tie.

Don't get disheartened either. It may not look 'textbook' but it'll probably fool a trout or whatever when pulled through cloudy water. I also believe that the simplest patterns (i.e. easiest to tie !) are the best - but then I do have quite a few blank days, so maybe my advice isn't that good !

Oh yes, enjoy it ! With the radio on, a coffee or a beer and tying's at its best when you should really be doing something else like mowing the lawn or washing the car !
