Hello from a newb!!!!

Hello out there folks in fly fishing land!!!! This is my first time to this forum, so I thought I'd do a bit to introduce myself. I am a 34 year old salesman who calls the hills of western Massachusetts home. I am fortunate to be surrounded by some fine trout waters, such as the fabled Deerfield River and the Green River. Although I have been fishing for most of my life, it was only last spring that my fiancee and I took up fly fishing. I was quickly a convert, as was she. This winter, I am expanding my love of the sport by taking up fly tying as well...wish me luck!!!! I have everything I need except a new pair of scissors, which I'll be picking up in the next day or two. I also do a fair amount of surf casting for stripers and blues both on the north shore of Mass and on Cape Cod. Eventually I plan to take my passion for fly fishing to the surf as well...but only so much gear in a year, ya know?!!

Other than my fishing interests, I am an electric bass player and a brewer, formerly professionally, now just for fun.

And the picture in my avatar is of the Deerfield River, just a mile or so below the Hossac Tunnel in Rowe, MA. I took that picture last June on a beautiful if not fruitful day of fly fishing.

I look forward to chatting with you all...pop in and say "Hi" and tell me something about yourselves!!!

Re: Hello from a newb!!!!

Thanks folks!!! Must say I'm glad I found this place today. I'm a bit blue, so hopefully this will cheer me up!! You see, its about 7C/45F here in lovely western Massachusetts, US of A...which means were I not stuck here at work I could be out fishing!!!! Sure, missing one day of fishing to work might not seem so bad...but we may not see temps this high again till March!!!

Oh well, that's life...

I've been reading a few of your posts Smoothy, very informative and now you've gone and increased my desire to start saltwater fly fishing for stripers as well!!! I can double up, cast the baitrunner and let her sit and fly fish simultaneously. No problem till I land fish on both at the same time!!!

But, OK, you've gone and offered your services, so...any tips for a beginning fly tier? I've got all the supplies to get going except a new pair of scissors which I'll probably get tomorrow. Good Orvis stuff and a good manual. But any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated!!! I'm primarily interested in good trout flies for now, as thats mostly what we're after here.
