Re: pike fishing with fly?

I dont geof
but guy in tackle shops addicted , aparently he has tried traces and struggled so he uses 60 or 80lb mono as a trace, as usually the fly isnt taken deep
hope that helps

Re: pike fishing with fly?

I remember watching a guy on tv last year and he was catching pike on the fly, he also was catching pollock off the rocks on the fly. Both methods he was useing a very fast sinking line and the second it hit the water he was retrieving fast. Wire trace i remember for the pike, thats all i remember mate. Very fast sinking line seems to be the secret.

Re: pike fishing with fly?

nice one chaps! the reason i ask is i think its somthing that could re,light the old fires, and i get bored too easily, done the carp, course, pike and sea thing (no boats! i get sick on boats!) and i know my way around all of them now, competant at best but i kind of know what im doing)
chucking a fly seems the way forward for me, so i can be the ultmate jack of all trades and master of non!
that and i like fiddling around making stuff, and tying sea/pike flys sounds
a good way to spend a winter! that and i bet a couple of lb of pike or bass even a mackrel on that gear is a rush!

Re: pike fishing with fly?

I fish for pike, use a 9wt rod, and 6/8 feet of 30lb leader to turn the flies over. Trailing tandom hook flies tied with 60 lb link is good enough, never had a biteoff yet.
