| Trout still moving well Today the lake water seemed very cold (stood in it a few hours) and very clear. Trout were moving and jumping but difficult to catch. I blanked, not even a hit. Doreen caught a good rainbow 2lb+ on - yeah you've guessed it - a black booby ! She's getting too good now, beating the master. She's meant to be ' fluff ' in training ' __________________ * <0((fluff))< " 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water " |

| Nice to be out though Fluff, and good to hear trout are still moving, were they feeding or just lolloping out of the water. They do that sometimes when they have been feeding hard on the bottom.... the reason is to clear their gills of silt and ditritus. Or they may have gill flukes. There comes a time in every anglers life.... when they make the mistake of taking the wife fishing...... then the hormones take over...... and they out fish you from time to time! But with a black fritz booby....... you have my commiserations Fluff. Did you try the Coral Dolly, white or any other colour... what about Gold Head Daddy, Hares Ear, Viva etc? What lines were you using? Sometimes its just the fact they were in front of Doreen and not you! I remember fishing with a good pal of mine 2 years ago opening day on Blagdon. We used the same lines same flies almost same retrieve rate everything and I still outfished him about 3 to 1. We were anchored up, and all i put it down to was my side of the boat was 10 inches deeper than his so there was an ever so slight a dropp off, enough to hold the fish in front of me and not him. I knew this because i have a builders tape with a 4oz lead on it and it tells me exactly how deep it is when I lower it over the side. No need for a fish finder. In the end we swapped places in the boat so he could get his limit. I'd had my fill so it was his turn. |

| Re: Trout still moving well Hi Smoothy, I caught real good last visit using a 'chartreuse and white with some flashabou booby' tied more like a streamer but using marabou. Got the idea from a clouser bass fly. Thought - wow I've cracked it with this fly - but no I haven't and thats the fun of fishing. Yes. I think the fish were feeding hard on the bottom and taking an occasional jump to clear their gills and see if we were still there. I tried lots of different colours inc coral but not hares ear. Doreen now always seems to start with coral then goes to black. She has just told me to advise you that it's her skill that got her the fish - I reckon it's that expensive genuine Chanel No5 Xmas pressie I got at Llanelli market; she dabs on her fly I spoke to Stuart Illsley today and ordered 2 of the Hi Viz floaters only £12.95 each , they're a Shaky line - Rob Waddington at Rutland also uses them; So we're in good company now. Just got to learn to cast - forum fluff chuck I hope. Also ordered a DI7 Polyfuse: Stuart gave a nice discount, if they arrive OK its a cracking service. I also asked recently, on the forum, about straight eyed hooks. I asked Stuart for some booby hooks and he say's most people are using straight eyed hooks - what a coincidence. He's sending a 100. Thought the builders tape a v.good idea. Next time we take the boat out on the lake we'll check some depths We are getting a problem with a green kind of blanket weed - I tried a 3ft leader to see if I could keep the booby above the weed but still came back covered in weed. Possibly it's fishing ok in the deeper water and only picking up the weed as it gets closer in ? Cheers __________________ * <0((fluff))< " 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water " |

It's good to see that somebody else is out there 'fluff chucking' You had 2 lovely fish - well done. We've also got some blues and they seem to fight just a tad harder. I bet both your fish gave you a good time. Was the viva a marabou wing or hackle? I haven't tried a viva for a while but a few months ago they were working well for me. Hope to go tommorrow and I'll give a 'chuck' with a very slow retrieve. We were also having some on a girdle bug but fished in about 10ft just off the bottom- I suppose a girdle bug could look like a daddy long legs to a trout I'll always be pleased to hear what you're catching on what fly and retrieve method etc - please post your days 'fluff chuckin' Cheers __________________ * <0((fluff))< " 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water " |

We'll be trying for bass on fly - I think they'll fight harder than trout and should be good fun. Please post and let us know how you get on. __________________ * <0((fluff))< " 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water " |
