New line for winter? I was talking to a guy today and he suggested i buy a sinking line for winter as the fish will be lying at a lower level and it would improve my chances. As im just starting out in the sport with a floating line should i buy a second line for winter or stick at it with the floating line?

Re: New line for winter? Don't instantly jump on the sinking line bandwagon, yes the fish will be fairly deep on very cold days however in milder conditions a floater or slow intermediate will be better. I've tempted several trout on milder days with size 18 CDC's fished on the edge of a light ripple. The density of the line required will also depend on the depth of the fishery, obviously if the lake is only a few feet deep then a Di7 would be more or less useless, as it will catch the bottom.

Re: New line for winter? If the water you fish is not megga deep? You could try a sink tip line with a longer fluro leader and use weighted flies. sinking lines can be tricky to cast if you are still tweeking mistakes whith your casting.

Re: New line for winter? I fished Manningford fishery the other day. With snow on the ground, started with a sinking line and was not catching, changed to a floating line with intermidiate leader, and was straight into fish! Floating or intermidiate lines seem to me to be good alrounders!
