Brown Trout Bait ??

Hi

Ive managed to get a bit of info on the River Brit and im told its pretty narrow and overgrown thus making casting a fly pretty dificult.

I was told there are plenty of brownies upto about 10oz.

Any suggestions what they might take apart from the fly ??

Thanks

Stephen

You could try worms or even a small spinner, floatfished maggots can also work. Some flyfishermen dont like the idea of bait fishing for trout!!! LOL

As said above mate, not too sure if this stuff is still any good but i used to use "powerbait" aswell. that was around 4-5 years ago right enough.
river fly fishing for trout i used to use "midge" like flies or one called a "grey duster"

Re: Brown Trout Bait ??

Find a bit of water where you can overturn some stones or big boulders and see if you can find some stone men little grub found under stones and occasionally looking like little sticks. carefully open the small case of tiny stones (they look a bit like little tubes) inside you will find a little yellow or white grub, they hatch into flys later in the year. these are deadly on brown trout waters fish one on a single small hook simmilar to fishing with a worm. or if the water has some a gadger google both so you know what they look like.

Re: Brown Trout Bait ??

free lining a single worm can spur some furious takes from small trout and i find i catch more fish by hooking it just the once so the current presents the worm naturally and i find a size 12 coachman is quite good when im fly fishing in small burns or streams
