Name that reel

Hey folks, just signed up and posted in the welcome section.
as said in there my granda gave me 2 fly reels and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about them? one of them says "Cladding interpid-mad in england" "gear fly-king size"
the other one's plates are worn and i cant make out anything

they look like they might be the same mate,
as for the name,well a couple of well known names from the distant past were gladding and intrepid,
having said that they look a bit like an old alvey reel i had donkeys years ago

ahh cool, it maywell be gladding it says then, they are quite old i pressume that would make sense..

hi craig i used the intrepid gear fly reels years ago like your reels the gears are very soft alloy and wear and slip.
check the cogs on the spool to see if the point s are rounded.

I take it its a case of removing the screw from the back to check this mate?

craig if you press the small clip in the top center of the handle you can pull out the handle to take the spool off so you can check the cog on the spool and all the gears best of luck.

Ther'e Intrepid Gear Fly reels mate. I still use mine from time to time. They were never an expensive reel, but are reliable & were good value for money in their day. The high speed gearing is usefull if you like to get line back onto the reel in a hurry & play a fish directly from the reel. I believe they were still in production up until about 10 years ago. The Kingsize would normally be used for reservoir fishing with lines rated from about 7# - 9# No real value as a collectors peice, so use em and enjoy.
