Reel loading Ordered the backing line for my reel (20lb), can anyone tell me how much of this I should apply, I was thinking about 100yds, and also how much length of my mainline should I have? The mainline I'm using at the mo is WF6F??? Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reel loading What are you trying to catch whales you could half that ammount if not quarter it. i have had some big fish in my time and i can only recall getting down to the backing once. seriously you do need backing but 100 yards is in my opinion way to much perhaps others will give you different advice but at least half that ammount would do you. __________________ www.fishingaround-scotland.com

Re: Reel loading How big is your reel? I agree with Tom, you shouldn't really need more than 50-60yds of backing for trout.

Re: Reel loading One other thing, two of the sets of mainline I've bought so far are only 27.5metres long....that right?

Re: Reel loading maybe for salmon you would need that bit extra, as for mainline, just whatever it comes in, you can get 100ft of mainline but most come a lot shorter. NEVER cut the fly line either!
