Rod reel matching

Could someone explain the concept of matching a rod, reel and line please? Is it obvious, ie, a 6/7 rod requires a 6/7 line etc?

Many thanks

Ian

Re: Rod reel matching

there you go its obvious as you state.

but to offer a bit more info.
heavier lines ie 6# 9# take more room and a bigger reel is required to hold them, but as the rod is at times longer and alway heavier it helps to balance the set up.
small trout rods 1# to 5# will use smaller reels.
as for line to rod match you will find 1 weight heavier lines compaired to the rod rating will load and cast better, ie 7#rod 8#line
