New 2009 season

Well its almost the start of the new season for brown trout and ofcourse the big fisheries will be opening there doors for a new season. I my self am looking forward to the season opening in fact 5 weeks time i am fishing the first club competition of the season. so some fly's have been tied some bought so have the new lines etc.

But if you are a bit like me and dont do the winter fishing when was the last time you looked in your bag. Have a think about whats in it then go and look im sure you will find some sort of surprise i know i did. What was it well it was a we dram that i had forgotten about, not forgotton any longer.

I spend the winter months chasing trout with nymphs on the smaller stillwaters, nymphing is my favourite method of catching trout alongside dry flies.

I also do a fair amount of grayling fishing on the River Eden near Penrith, I caught a nice specimen back in January on a leaded bug.

i have not fished rivers for a number of years but the largest grayling i ever cought was just over 2lbs on the river line in the scottish borders cracking fish. i am looking forward to the new season and the new National angling competition which i have just signed up for

I read today that the brown trout fishery at Loch Venacar has reduced there prices for this season which starts on the 18th March 09

who prefers brownies to rainbows, ill bet most will go for the rainbow but you just cant beat that wild brownie

Well the summer fishing and the main season starts this week i cant wait, but i will have to as im off on a holiday this week but i will be out for the first club competition on my return. i am looking forward to getting my fly's wet for another season.
