Line coils, advice please HI I treated myself to a new fly rod in the winter, and the line, which has been on the new reel for a few monthes, coils up real quick on casting out, what I'd like to know is likely to loose its memory if I tied it between to solid things, such as log baskets and keep it under tension for a day or two, or is there a more sensable way? Many thanks matt

Re: Line coils, advice please I always stretch my lines before use just by attaching one end to a tree or similar object. Keep the line in a warm place before doing so to make it supple. However you say that it's a new line. I would also question the quality of the line. How much did you pay for it & what brand is it? I normally use lines by Orvis & Cortland & never get this trouble until they are a few years old. Maybe it's old stock? __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

Re: Line coils, advice please I fly fish only occasionally these days and do exactly the same as Ian except that I rub the fly line with "plasticiser". It's a small tub of a grease like substance that I've had for several years. I'm really not sure if it makes any difference but so far it doesn't seem to have done any harm either. __________________ Rich "If a thing's worth doing it's worth doing to excess!"

Re: Line coils, advice please Like Greenhart says, give the line a stretch before fishing. What type of reel is the fly line stowed on? A large arbor type reel will help to reduce line memory/coils.

Re: Line coils, advice please what you need to do is make up a loop tied to a post or similar with a swivel another short piece of mono to another snap swivel connect to fly line and stretch, the swivels will turn to help lose the memory, buy some silicon car spray and apply to a rag and run it up the line a few times working from reel to loop end if its a airflo line just give it to the wife for a washing line and buy a cortland
