| Record Salmon Did anyone see that Photo in this weeks Angling Times of a Salmon estimated to weigh 75lb & caught on a fly from the river Ness in Scotland. It had a length of 56" & a girth of 40" The captor was a guy called Don Milne. He very sportingly returned it alive. However it was witnessed by three other anglers & two Gillies. The current record of 64lb is held by a Miss Georgina Ballantine & was caught from the river Tay Scotland in 1922. It was 54" long & had a girth of 28.5". __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |

| Re: Record Salmon Yes! Apparently they didn't have any scales that could weigh it as theirs only went up to 50lbs or something so the record still stands! |

| Re: Record Salmon I've seen the picture. Nowhere near the 100lb originally claimed in one of our national dailies (looks more like 40 lb in the picture) , and the fish in the picture DEFINITELY isn't an Atlantic salmon. It's one of the Pacific salmonids, possibly a steelhead (ie a sea-going rainbow) - amongst other features it has a heavily spotted tail. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: Record Salmon Quote:
Miss Ballantine's fish fits a formula of girth squared times length (all in inches) divided by 700 ie 28.5 X 28.5 X 54 /700 = 62.6 lbs, which tallies quite closely with the 64 lb recorded. Remember that fish was set up and was measured most carefully. By contrast the measurements of the "Ness" fish are 40 X 40 X 56/700 which comes to 128 lbs !!!!! Clearly there is something very fishy about the reported measurements - just as there is something very fishy about the identification! __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: Record Salmon Here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770 Now look at this for comparison http://www.nature-discovery.com/home/nd1/page/44/39 Look particularly at the two tails. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: Record Salmon I must confess, I did wonder about the Dimension to weight ratio myself. As i've never caught a Salmon (Still living in hope) I can't really comment on it's identifying features with regard to species. __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
