Re: total beginer need help I'm not the most experienced fly fisherman in the world but for small lake fishing I would go for a 9' or 9' 6" and around 6 or 7 weight. There are some good fly fishermen that use this site so hopefully they'll be able to give you some extra advice as there are different types of rod action which suit different levels of ability too.

Re: total beginer need help yep 9' or 9'6" dont go any longer and 7wt would be a good start then fit with w/f fly lines dont be scared of putting a 8wt line on as it will help load the rod for you any other advice just shout there was a chap on here called midge he was shit hot at the game where you from

Welcome to the Forum. A seven weight (7#) middle to tip action rod & outfit would be about right for small lakes & ponds. Make sure you get weight forward lines. A floater & a medium sinking line should see you OK to start with. Also a few casting lessons from someone who knows what they are doing would be worth their weight in gold. Iron out any bad casting habbits before they start so to speak. The best way to learn, would be to join a local flyfishing club as they will be able to advise on good local flies etc. Good luck __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...
