| Banned flies Read an article on an American website that said some fly patterns are banned in the UK. It gave as examples the Booby and Shipmans Buzzer. Can anyone tell me why this is and on what waters, especially the buzzer pattern? Are there any other flies that are banned? |

| Re: Banned flies hi pete, as far as i know there is no ban on any lure or fly enforcable by law but some lake/riparian owners or clubs restrict hook sizes and bar some patterns. __________________ 2008, sessions..25, total blanks..3 species,..20 its easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than to defeat the darkness all around him. |

| Up here you normally find the most banned fly is a booby, cos a lot of guys put them on a sinking line and just leave them to their own devices and 9 times out of 10 the fish is hooked that deep it cannot be released or if it is it's dead shortly after. Thus costing the owner.therefore the ban. ![]() __________________ "Alright Jack, we all ready to fish?" | The booby is banned on some smaller type put and take fisheries as it is considered less sporting than whacking out a cats whisker with 6inches of marabou and a size 6 hook on it But the shipmans buzzer is also banned on some fisheries as they enforce their ban on ALL flies with synthetic materials that make them float. If you are inclined to fish a floating fly similar to a booby or shipmans.....use deer hair that is clipped to the have a similar effect. It strikesme that fisheryowners don't want you to catch their fish....but still want to take your hard earned money It took a lot of skill and practice from dedicated fly fishermen to develop these flies....so why not let people use them.....maybe they should ban buzzers and Diawl Bachs cos they catch more fish than boobies do!! ![]() __________________ Eventually all things merge into one, and a River runs through it. | Re: Banned flies Thanks for the info. Can't imagine the outcry if anyone here in Alberta tried to ban a fly because it used synthetics for floatation. Then again virtually all the lakes and streams here belong to the public. All hooks have to be barbless though. Plan to fish the Shipman's buzzer as soon as the ice melts - about another 4 weeks!! Sure envy you guys having year round lake fishing. |
