| At that time of year its Mayflies, if the weather is warm.... Dabblers, Bumbles and Mayfly patterns such as Godlings preferably Golden in colour. Some spent Mays go down well. A little tip.....try and use a longish rod and a double taper line say an 8 or a 7. The reason is that you need to "dibble" the line before it reaches the point where you lift off to re-cast. If you use a heavy weight forward the line will drop in front of you too quickly. Its surprising how many fish are tempted by it. A good trick is also to cast a fair way in front of the boat and straighten the line with a couple of tugs, but if fishing the mayflies dry, don't leave them static...tweek them now and again and you may induce a take. But the best information will come from the locals and especially the ghillies, soo find the bar where they drink at night and you will have loads of info. Good luck and happy days. Enjoy........ hi all, been researching the Melvin trip, wonder if anyone can suggest where to get the following flies that have been recommended, claret telephone, green telephone, claret stimulator, green stimulator and olive stimulator. i have the usual bumbles, dabblers and peters from previous trips to the midlands/western lakes. can't seem to locate these tho. also any info on sonaghan trout, all i know is that this is the main species on melvin thanks ol red eyes |

| Not flies that i'm familiar with, you had best get the fly tying vice out. Got a lot of confidence in Claret Bumbles, Green Peters & dont forget to take a few invictas. Always found they do well when loch style fishing with the others. I shall see what I can find out about those telephone thingys, Good luck. ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
