Exclamation A Fly-ing Pike ?

I have just started dabbling with fly fishing for pike and i can see it becoming addictive !! Ive been addicted to piking for years but this flying for pike is amazing its a cross between lure fishing (wich ive also done for many years) and using small surface poppers -- i love it !! Has anyone else gave it a shot and could anyone tell me if it is easy to learn to tie your own flys? Nothing delicate like a claret bumble or a damsel ...... more like a xmas decoration, but they are deadly ! You cant beat the explosion of white water behind your fly followed by the power of a freight train trying to pull you under !! Oh well i might be exagerating but to me thats what it feels like !! GREAT !!

Cool Re: A Fly-ing Pike ?

Hi Mikey,

Yep mate.....Piking on a fly is great fun and during the summer it is just deadly.

For learning tio tie your own flies go to the Fly Dressers Guild Website and you will see a list of clubs that do fly tying for beginners. Thats the best place to start. Plus you get to meet guys who fly fish for Pike and you can exchange tips etc.

For fly tying gear go and see the "Big Yin" at Craftye Fisherman in Leith, he's a pal of mine and an ace fly tyer and fisherman. he'll put you straight.

Cheers
Shaun
