Flounders to 2lb. in the River Wear...

Flounders are now showing in the lower reaches of the River Wear and are now showing a preference for crab baits, although the bigger ones are still taking worm and mackerel baits fished on two hook paternoster rigs on medium tides.

Fish are between 1lb. 10oz. - 2lb. with the best one being 2lb.4oz. which I can verify, but unidentified reports say a fish of 2lb. 12oz was taken, a fine fish i'm sure you'll agree for this time of year...

Hopefully they will all be returned alive, and some cracking specimans will be taken this year.

Steve, surely though, you get massive flounders in the Teign?

Do you not fish the Teign?

Re: Flounders to 2lb. in the River Wear...

They're not in massive numbers yet, and still getting pestered off 8inch flats, but with the crabs starting to peel a lot more steadily, the fish will be more obliging, double figure bags common place.

Re: Flounders to 2lb. in the River Wear...

Paul we got a couple of nice flatties about 60 yards off seaton sluice harbour mouth on sunday during a 1/2 hour spell waiting for the tide to fill the harbour so we could come in!

Although we were out on the boat we were well within casting distance of the harbour mouth.

If you fancy a go for them send me a pm...I.m hoping to get out there a couple of times this week

Dave
