| Re: flounder on the east coast of the u.s. One thing to do is if is is safe , then at low tide have a walk out By walking over the ground that the flatties come over you can see what they are feeding on . My guess would be worms or shimps Do you ever see other anglers fishing there , if so just spend a little time and have a look at what they are using Also if you catch a fish and are going to eat it have a quick look in it stomach and there you can get some idea of what natural food is about Just some ideas __________________ Richard Fishing Tackle | Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

| Re: flounder on the east coast of the u.s. Hi - as I understand it sandworm, bloodworm, mussel and clam are all considered good bait for flounder on the USA east coast. Other baits such as sand-eel, squid and live fish are used for fishing for fluke which is a more aggressive predator. I believe they have two flounder fishing seasons per year on the east coast - a Spring/Summer season which starts March 20th and ends June 30th and a Fall/Winter season which starts September 15th and ends November 30th. |

| Re: flounder on the east coast of the u.s. Hi, What part of the east coast are you fishing? I have fished off of cape hatteras N.C. and L.B.I. N.J. I usually fish from a boat, but we are really close to shore. The best baits are sandworms which can be purchased at most coastal bait stores. Strips of squid also work well. For the squid you can tie on a leader and then put a buck tail on that. (blue buck tails work most times of the year) Just hook the squid through one end of it a couple of times and let it set on the bottom reeling it real slow. For the sandworms, tie on your hook and leader after a three way swivel that is weighted with a one or two ounce weight, and hook two or three sandworms down through the mouth like you would a plastic worm when bass fishing. carefull with the sandworms as they bite and will draw blood sometimes. good luck catching flounder. As far as telling between fluke and flounder; don't worry about it, they look, feel, smell, and taste the same. . If you lay them side by side the flounder lays on its right side and the fluke lays on its left. You wont catch fluke and flounder together as flounder are a winter fish and fluke are a summer fish.
