You've confirmd my thoughts around bait and that digging the harbour ragworm could be worthwhile. Interesting note re the squid - I'll take some along for tipping if things get desperate.

most of the anglers that i've spoken to down at weston shore won't even use squid, some of them say it does not work down there

Must admit I only use squid for bream, cod and whiting fishing.

Don't rate it that highly myself except as a tipping bait if nothing else is working but who knows. I might use it if things get desperate, but they will need to be very desperate.
