| i love my odessa bass rod because it is so versatile, i use it for everything, from floating/freelining for wrasse to bottoming for doggies. although i got it as a presant, i know it was really cheap and as said before, it is worth way more than the price tag value! ![]() |

| Re: Century Flattie Im with you there Bigfish, regarding Shakespeare rods. I use an Odessa beach rod with a powerful but slim blank and a carp rod (no rusty rings) for plugging spinning and estuary work and fishing on the skerries for Plaice. Very underrated but we know how some like there "designer" names don’t we? Kiwi. __________________ Kia ora / Dia dhuit. - Matauranga kei ana kaha. | Re: Century Flattie I think that if someone enjoys what they do and have got a few quid to spent on their equipment then so be it, I appreciate havind a couple of nice rods and I look after them the best I can. Its something that Ive always wanted so I saved bloody hard for them. On the other hand and I've said this before my best rod is a cheap carp rod cos basically it catches the most fish. Some people like nice cars, I on the other hand see them as a means to get from A to B. My Mrs has got a sewing machine worth £2000 now to me that is a waste of good money, but its her money and her choise. We all know that at the end of the day its not what you have that matters,if you can put the right bait in front of the fish then your laughing, its just that its nice to use some nice equipment sometimes. |

| Re: Century Flattie i agree with you there pixie ,if you have the money to spend on top gear then go for it , its your choice mate ,these things cost more because they are better quality,to be honest i think shakesspheare is c**p, but they are ok for the budget angler....so if you got the cash then i would by the century (designer) flattie......... |

| Re: Century Flattie Thats right mate...here...here!!! The gear I've got at the moment has taken me 30 years or more to get. If I think back to me first home made bean stick with small curtain hooks and a bobbin and a bent nail as a handle. In fact I didnt even have a real on the first bean stick, there was 3 curtain hooks and a length of about 18 ft of mono. You should have heard it creak when I got the first 2 1/2lb Tench on it.lol ![]() |

| Re: Century Flattie I also purchased a new rod for flounder fishing recently. Visited the local tackle shop and asked to have a look and feel of their flattie and bass rods. I decided to purchase the Abu Quazer rod which is about £50. Point is it wasn't the most expensive rod there but suited my needs better than the more expensive rods on offer. Strongly suggest you try out the rods in a shop to get a feel for what you want from the rod as your needs may differ from mine or other people. The rod I bought is suited best for 2 or 3 oz lead, with max casting distance I think of around 70 yards if using relatively small baits, light line etc. Excellent bite detection but with enough beef further down the rod to handle a bass if caught by accident when fishing for flounder.
