Flounder Food

I have personally caught flounders on a variety of different baits and cocktails from mackerel strip too bunches of harbour ragworm. This afternoon I was sent an article regarding Weelers Peeler Crabs. For those that dont know Weelers are a Swansea based company for create farmed shore crabs and enduce them to peel - then they sell them to anglers!!!

Anyway, someone associated with Weelers holds the Welsh Shore Record Flounder of 3lb 12oz and they claim that it was caught using king ragworm tipped with peeler crab - they say this cocktail has proved deadly and sorts out the bigger fish....
I have caught flounder on king rag and peeler, possibly even a cocktail of both but I cannot honestly say I have noticed a pattern to the size of the fish and a specific bait cocktail.

So, has anybody else noticed a trend? A technique or bait which has sorted out more fish or better sized fish? With the estuary season about to get really good would be cool to hear what everyone has noticed....

Personally on the surf beaches I notice I catch well on lugworm tipped with a small chunk of mackerel. In the estuary lugworm tipped with ragworm seems effective and consistent.

Re: Flounder Food

when i've caught flounder, it's been on lugworm, or lugworm tipped with small squid strips, or ragworm/small squid strips.

Re: Flounder Food

aha me and steve can start the anti peeler crab theme then.

personally i think they are over rated i mean here they say you need peeler in the teign for flounder but...

if 95 out of 100 ppl fishing the river on a day are fishing with peeler then of course it is going to outfish the worm or fish bait!
i have caught flounder from the teign on lobworm! so you dont 'need' peeler crab
