Try a ragworm bait tipped with half a peeler crab

Try adding a few coloured beads behind the bait ( not too many though )

esturies are a knocking bet for plaice, with muddy gullies and banks, be prepared to catch flounder amongst them, but generally you'll find the flounders will be quite close to the shore, as they like to hug the shoreline, chuck the bait a little further out to avoid flounders...

Off the open beach, plaice like gravelly bottoms, and try moving the bait now and again, sometimes tipping with mackerel, or squid, will attract plaice, but my personal favourite, is a two hook clipped up and down rig, with ragworm and crab and a few added coloured sequins, which also act as bait stops behind a stop knot.

As for plaice in the Southampton area, I fished a place called Hamble, and I remember I was catching flounder, but others around me did catch a few plaice, so I would say Hamble, but i'm sure someone else will know a much better mark around Southampton for plaice!

I have only had two plaice one at Lepe and one at calshot.
Used wishbone rigs with lots of beads and ragworm as bait.
They do show round the Southampton area but i hear portsmouth or Hayling island are your best bet, but still a touch early yet only a few showing.

No i think they will go anywhere there is plenty of food for em.
A lot of people that fish Hayling Island pick up slipper limpetts of the beach and catch em on these and the bass.
I have only had two Plaice from Lepe and Calshot but i have seen plenty caught there.
