| Flounder On The Teign Although I live close to the Teign, I have never targeted this species of fish. The only thing I do know about catching them is to fish with light gear eg, flattie rod, carp rod, or a smaller light beachcaster, say 2-4oz casting weight. I was also once told that the prefered bait on the Teign is peeler crab. Other than this, I dont know much else. If anyone has knowledge on what rigs and baits to use, what time of the year to fish and in particular what marks to fish along the Teign, I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance. Mart. |

| Hi Marty, I have never fished the Teign, but i have fished the Taw at Barnstaple. Best rig i have used is a wishbone rig, basically tie a big loop in yer snood line... cut so that one is 6-8 inches longer than the other add a swivel to end to attach to main line. Or take an 18 inch length of snood line and use a three turn water knot to tie it half way up 3-4' of snood line, this is preferable as the short snood stands proud of the line(saves on tangles when casting) Above this put on either a ball lead... I prefer pear shaped leads, again on a swivel. Now add usual stuff colured beads sequins etc of your choice to the snood then topping off with hook size 1 or 2 long shank. On the Taw maddies work best follwed by crab. With this rig you can search out the depressions by letting it roll around, you have to balance the lead to the strength of tide too fast a roll and no fish! Best time is November through to January when they move in to feed up before going out to spawn, then on the way back in after spawning, but they are not as fit as when they are on the way out to spawn. Usually hook up double shots on this rig. Try it and let me know how you get on. Cheers Shaun __________________ Eventually all things merge into one, and a River runs through it.
