bass fisher05 there are many types of baits that work for bass depending on the situation. 1. Minnow type plugs - shallow to med. depth 2. Top water baits (poppers, scumfrogs ect.) - shallow 3. Spinners baits - shallower water 4. Plastic scented worms/crayfish ect. - all depths depending on weights 5. Live bait (minnows, worms, leeches & crayfish) off floats or bottom fished Good Luck ![]() |

| Re: Best bass lures One of the best lures I've used over the years is a modified Zoom Ultra Vibe Speedworm. Buy one pack of Watermelon/Red glitter Speedworms and do the following. Cut off the tail of each speedworm a half inch up from the actual flat hooktail. Using a 2/0 offset shank Gamakatsu worm hook, texpose one of the worm bodies. Ask around for help on texposing....some of the locals can help you with that one....easier shown than described. Fish this worm body weightless in the following manner..... Cast to likely cover/structure and simply let fall to bottom watching line carefully.....if it moves sideways or suddenly, even a small amount, set the hook. If nothing grabs the lure on the fall, simply wait 30 seconds, turn the bail over on your reel and lift slowly about two feet.....to feel for fish. If nothing on, and you have lifted about two feet, give the rod tip just a small flick with your wrist....sometimes this will trigger a strike, if not, let refall and wait 20 seconds...lift slowly again two feet to feel for fish....if nothing yet, reel in at a moderate pace and re-cast to another likely spot. I can't tell you why, but the watermelon/red (green with red glitter) works the best of all the zoom colors, but for this technique, it simply does. If you are in a boat and the boat is drifting too fast, use a weighted hook....my favorite is the Snagless Slider 1/16 oz. hook by Charlie Brewer.....just the original hook, not the Pro model. This will be ample weight to get the lure to bottom. It won't fall horazontally like the weightless hook, but will still catch some fish. Experiment with your cast......sometimes bass like the regular cast, at other times they prefer the extra entry noise of a skipping cast.......achieved by casting the lure sidearm style, and even at othertimes they seem attracted by the bait bomb, simply a high arc cast hitting hard and blasting the surface. The lure itself, I call a zoomie. Zoomies can be rigged in the rear, after the front tears up, can also be wacky rigged and fished that way if the bass seem to want that presentation. Hope this helps, Mac |
