Leger Tactics?

I'm hoping to continue my voyage to the dark side this weekend. I have mainly used a float while course fishing but fancy trying legering for a change. Can someone explain a few leger rigs for me? The only time I've tried so far I used a weighted swim feeder on a zip slider, didn't try it for long though and didn't get any bites. All information gratefully received!

Re: Leger Tactics?

Sorry for the delay and this is not very good but hopefully give you an idea about basic ledger rigs

Well the common rig is a running rig which is basically a three foot hook length and then a ledger stop and your swivel plus lead

Ledger stops are better than using split shot as a stopper for your swivel as they do not damage the line so much and can be re used

Ledger Stop

Basic setup

You can play with the hook length to find the best length for the water that you fish

There are variants of this rig like the bolt rig which is basically a stopper about 8 inches above the swivel so that when the fish bites it will feel Nothing until is starts to move off and then the stopper will jolt the hook into place . Its mainly used for carp but is also good for big eels

Sorry this is a bit pants mate but Im sure the guys will chip in with info

Re: Leger Tactics?

I use a free-running ledger i.e. a lead on the main line, rubber bump-stop then swivel, then hair rig. Nice and easy. It was recommended to me by Dan (Norfolkboy) as a rig that ensures little damage to a fish if the line snaps and it works!

Re: Leger Tactics?

Thanks Richard, that's helpful. I've only legered with a method feeder or a swim feeder so far. With the swim feeder I've had it running on a zip slider above the swivel with a bead seperating them but I guess the principle is similar.
