using bread as bait..... i am struggling with getting the bread to stay on the hook for longer than 1 minute. is it my way of putting the bread on the hook or is it the bread just getting too soggy? how do i put bread on a hook without it coming off after a short period of time? thanks

Re: using bread as bait..... I push the hook through a very fluffy piece of bread and then pinch it around the shank of the hook, it works for me Rob

worth trying bread punches as well, they do some good large ones now which are great for carp and tench. |

Re: using bread as bait..... they are a handy way of mounting bread, the punch is of various sizes in round or teardrop shapes , to use them you place a slice of white bread on a flat surface and press the punch into it,when you pull the punch out you will have pellet-like bit of bread in the punch, you put the hook point into the bread and pull it out (some punches have little slots for the hook ), when you cast it out it swells up in the water and it hasn't been touched by your hand and therefore not tainted in any way. hope that helps,i find it very good for roach,i havn't used the bigger ones which i believe are good tench baits. best of luck if you try them mate, they are quite cheap in the tackle shop as well.

Re: using bread as bait..... Breadpunches http://www.pauls-angling-supplies.co...nch-p-437.html you can get them cheaper ![]() . When purchasing a bread punch there are several things to consider: 1) It needs to be shallow. 2) The centre cut needs to go to the centre of the punch. 3) It needs to cut cleanly. 4) Preferably it should float.in case it falls in ![]() ![]() 5) You should have a variety of sizes.

Re: using bread as bait..... As for bread flake then it SHOULD fall off when you reel in. This means it's not a big hook obscuring lump of dough and it also means that after a while quite a few freebies have gone in. Remember when the bread hits the water it naturally soaks up water. Your hook is almost sat (in still water anyway) in a bready cloud so when a fish sucks the bread mush it will usually also take your bait. Bread punchs are great too. If you plan to catch silver fish then start with bread if you intend to use both bread and maggots. For some reason I find the fish will not switch back so easily to the bread once maggots have been introduced. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
