Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth one small tip i can give, set your rod rest so that 2/3" of the tip is under water before tensioning the line to cock the float, this ensures no line is floating on the surface, which can give a false indication, with wind drifting the line. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Sounds like an interesting bit of kit, is it worth using one for feeder fishing in a river? Takes the quiver tip (or lack of) problem I have got away. __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!

Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth unlikely joe, was designed for lakes, any river tow on the line, will upset the balance on the float, nice thought though. buy yourself a little 10' quiver rod with interchange tips, around £35/40 quid new. or the john wilson one, everybody is on about. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Hopefully for my birthday I will get a new rod but until then I have to work with what I have got. Carp rod and a float rod, guess I will have to use the carp rod with a bite alarm? __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |

Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth try thr float rod with an adjustable carp bobbin, one where you can add extra lead to counter balance the flow, can be very effective if balanced correctly. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Another way to plumb the depth in your swim when fishing a float; without disturbing your swim too much; is to setup your waggler but before you put the final shot down your line squeeze an SSG shot over your hook which will be able to sink your float if it's set too shallow. Once you have finished finding the depths just remove the SSG from the hook; put the remainder of your shot on your line and bait your hook. It’s always advisable to either mark your rod (or Pole) with some tippex at the correct depth or just note the depth against your rod rings so that after a line break you can ensure you are still fishing at the same depth as you were before the break. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) Last edited by BoldBear; 03-27-2012 at 10:17 AM.
