| Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Top report rich , I was told this many blue moons ago, by a very good friend, who now has gone to the dark side {Golf} That the better fish will tend be at bottom and if you get the feed on the bottom you have a better chance of catching them so knowing the depth is very important. I know that not all the better fish are on the bottom but as a rule of thumb its worth remebering that especially on a colder day. __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Polaris floats are the best bit of kit that i have in my float collection, I have a few of them, they work wonders when you use them with a swimfeeder,I use one for Carp, tench, Bream, and Roach fishing, also had small rudd, The lakes i fish are 15/20 foot deep and found these floats to work at any depth, wouldnt be without one. | Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Probally a silly question here but ive been reading up on these tips. So i have turned up at the lake and get my keepnet out and plummet and start by throwing in a keepnet then for the next 5 minutes lobbing in a heavy weight. Will this not upset other anglers next to me on the next peg by me disturbing the lake etc. |

| Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Just read your original post Rich & your spot on mate too many people turn up & dont bother to find out what or where they are fishing or fishing onto. Often finding features on an otherwise featureless pit can get you fish when other people will blank. A lot of commercials the depth you fish is critical & you could sit there all day & not catch while the guy next to you bags up. Mastic mate nope a plummet is only a small device & really your only checking the depth in & around your swim not next doors swim so you should be ok on that front. | Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth good info and builds knowledge but i didnt buy a plummet so use a swan shot wrapped around the hook think i may need to invest in one and stop being cheap lol |

| Yeah be worth buying a plummet Dave as you tend to get a false indication on depth with just an SSG especially if theres weed in the swim also causes damage to your hook length & that's the last thing you want. Rob. __________________ So many types of fishing ... so little free time... |

| Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Quote:
How to use: Step 1 - Simply push your reel line through the 'Frixon' device, there are two holes (small hole lines to 6lb and the large hole for lines to 20lb). Step 2 - Tie on your feeder or bomb rig (tip -use a snap swivel to aid rapid change of feeders or bombs), do not add any shot between feeder/bomb and float. Step 3 - Cast the finished rig as normal. You can wind the line through the 'Frixon' to get the perfect casting position. Step 4 - When the feeder or bomb hits the bottom keep the reel line slack and the Polaris float will surface Tensioning the line locks the float. Step 5 - Keep the rod tip pointing at the float, then all you need to do is strike!!! Here is a you tube link about using the float: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igNTw...embedded#at=21 Hope this helps. |

| Re: Freshwater Fishing - knowing your depth Some more info on polaris floats...there are two holes in the "Frixon" part of the float which you pass your line through, the smaller one is for lines of 3lb plus & the other is for thicker lines up to 20lb. There is no shot required between the float & feeder or bomb. .Just set your float about 2ft from the feeder/bomb & cast in .When it hits the bottom keep you line slack ,the float will come to the surface,as soon as you see it appear, tension the line, this locks the float in that position .I find that if you let the float rise & sit flat on the surface it has gone too far & will not cock ,as it is not a self cocking float. Hope it helps ,....i probert |
