Re: Lures Fishing basics - my way

I always found small Mepps spinners to be a killer when spinning for perch, caught some nice healthy small pike too this way.

Re: Lures Fishing basics - my way

I've heard little Ondex Spinners (especially the ones with the red wool by the hook) are great for perch.

Know a lake which I'll be trying this summer for them

i am about to give up lure fishing if i dont get lucky on it soon, i have fail miserably with it so far [excluding feathers], but the dream of luring a summer bass might keep me trying for a while yet. i suck at it

Re: Lures Fishing basics - my way

Cheer Richard it worked a charm. I am new to coarse fishing and to be honest only have really tried sea fishing with not much luck while visiting my Uncle near Edinburgh about 25 years ago. I have been trying feeder fishing and I decided after reading your tips to have ago at lure fishing. This was my first attempt and after 3 hours and about 6 different lures I caught a pike. No idea what weight as I have no scales however, it just fitted in my landing net, so it would have been in the region of 50cm from sharp end to blunt. It was caught at the embankment Wellingborough on the River Nene using a Mitchell Gypsy spinning rod using a Ron Thompson spinner from the 4 selection pack. I have got a couple of photos and will try and add them later. Thanks again I still have not stopped smiling!

Graeme

Try tipping a small mepps spinner with a small redworm, works a treat for perch. The same thing works for mullet using a small piece of ragworm. For Mullet an additional hook + a couple of beads mounted about 1" - 1 1/2" behind the spinner blade works even better.

Re: Lures Fishing basics - my way

well done graeme on your first

just a tip it would be better to put it on a unhooking mat next time as if it thrashes about its not going to do damage to itself

nothing breeds pike like neglect
