Re: hooking a worm As long as the worm is on the hook it really dosn't matter. I have seen people who hook the worm just once through the middle, but I like to stary at one end of the worm and hook it through for or five times in different places and clump it up on the hook real well good luck and if you are catching fish then your doing something right __________________ Well I love her and I love to fish All day I'm on this lakeshore and hell is all I catch. She met me at the door today and said I would have to choose, if I hit that fishing hole today than she would be gone by noon....WELL IM GONNA MISS HER when I get home today. (brad Paisley)

Re: hooking a worm I've had worms come off the hook (barbless) and also wondered how to keep them on. I normally hook the worm about 3 times this tends to keep it on longer but I had an idea a while ago, I had some of those rubber maggots so I put one of those on after hooking the worm and it never came off so if you haven't any rubber maggots try a float rubber. A mate I sometimes fish with shown me another way, he puts the hook through the worm just past the collar, he then threads the worm round the hook and let the point come out again once the worm reached the top of the hook. Then he snapped the head off the worm, he said this stops it wriggling off, the worm stayed on.

Re: hooking a worm A rubber maggie is a good, and snipping the end of is another very good tip, as it will cause more of a scent trail to leak into the water, thus attracting more fish. All the good advice won't stop tiddlers snatching your bait tho, we just have to put up with that.

Re: hooking a worm I keep a few fat rubber bands in my tackle box , a small sliver of one of these on the hook after the worm as you would a rubber maggot does the trick. a pair of forceps makes the job easier. the red royal mail bands are perfect for this & can be harvested from most pavements early in the morning.
