Surface fishing

That time of year is coming up again soon, where the carp start feeding off the top. (My favourite way of fishing incidentally)

What I was wondering is, what baits do you find most sucessful?

Obviously you've got bread and mixers, but what else do you use too good effect?

The baits I've caught on are:
Worms (if fish are in really close, you can hold it on top)
Bread
Dog mixers
Pop up boilies
Sugar Puffs
Wotsits

The most sucessful have been dog biscuits, but I've caught some cracking tench on wotsits.

Also, how do you fish on the top?

I prefer to freeline, but if needs be I will add a controller float.

Look forward to hearing some idea's

Re: Surface fishing

Your right about being a wonderfull way of fishing. Nothing better to get the heart going when your see a carp move in to your swim and see to carp suck up your bait

I get result with just bread as I just smire it with a bit of marmite / peanut butter ect

As for Sugar Puffs and Wotsits , I find I always eat them before they go on the hook

mmm - still summer evenings - cannot wait
