Re: Are hook lengths a must

Hi - why not google HOW TO TIE FISHING KNOTS it shows step by step in picture form (you can choose continuous slow motion or click one step @ a time) various basic fishing knots.
It doesn't however show how to tie a spade end hook - so to tie this :-

1) Lay a loop of line long the shank of the hook with about a 2.5" tail for whipping (so the hook's bend is facing down)
2) Whip the line along the shank (6-8 turns is enough) towards the spade end.
3) swap the whipped hook into your other hand (holding it all tightly when you do this)
4) Pass the loose tail through the loop you made in note 1 & holding the end of the line & the line above the hook pull it semi tight (the hook is now suspended in fresh air.
5) Wet the line before you pull it all tight.
6) cut the TAG of line very close to the hook (use very sharp/small scissors or even a razor blade)
7) Test your knot (by holding the hook & pulling on the line above - don't test it on a fish)
8) Cut the line about 15" long & make DOUBLE over hand loop (wet that too before you pull it tight) & cut the loose TAG this one doesn't need to be cut quite as close as the tag @ the hook end (within 1 or 2MM will do)
I keep my hook lengths in individual hook packets & write on what they are ie
size and line strength. eg SIZE 18 TO 2lb OMNIX.
Good luck & tight lines.
Martin.

Good advice Martin (I assume that's your name, could be your surname and I made another one of my faulty assumptions :) ).

Re: Are hook lengths a must

Hi barbelblanker - yes my first name is Martin - by pure coincidence i've just stumbled on animated knots within 1/2 an hour of replying to saladdodgers thread - it's by far the best knot site i've ever seen.
Thanks for that anyway - hope other chaps & chapesses are onto this.
I now have a lot more options.
Best Regards.

Martin.
