| Reaching next level up from tiddlers? Can anyone give me some tips of how to reach the next level up from tiddlers? New to float fishing, small stillwater lakes. Have caught between 5 - 10 small perch & roach (< 1/2 lb) on the last few visits using 3 maggots on size 14 hook. Would be happy with any 1lb+ fish!!! Incidently, I noticed the carp were lively today ... leaping out and strolling around the water. Did anyone else notice this? I had one take a nibble of my hooked bread right next to the bank .. but spit it out. __________________ Sion&Robyn Float & feeder - Lakes nr. | Re: Reaching next level up from tiddlers? I fish at either Leggets Lake (near Turners Hilll) or Moat Road Pond (East Grinstead). Further to previous post, I have been thinking about using a bomb lead, size 10 hook and 6mm pellets. __________________ Sion&Robyn Float & feeder - Lakes nr. | Re: Reaching next level up from tiddlers? Leggets lake looks as if a lot of anglers are struggling there, with ropes across the lake, only 2 small skimmers being caught at a match, they say there are some big bream but they are not showing. if matches anglers are having trouble getting fish, then for a begginer it may seem impossible. I would try a sweet g/bait with casters and hemp mixed in, lob 1/2 dozen balls about the size of a lemon, then tackle your gear up, gives the fish chance to get onto the bait, then fish caster over the top, 2" off the bottom first, for 1/2 hour, if nothing shows deepen the float so you have 4 to 6 " of line laying on the bottom. should you still be biteless try a brandling worm on the hook. use a 2 to 3 lb hooklink and a size 16 hook. hope this helps, try it and see, let us know how you get on. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |

| Re: Reaching next level up from tiddlers? Thanks for the advice Chris :) I can appreciate that attracting fish into the area makes a significant difference. Had better results recently (ie/ >0!!) after tossing in halibut pellets as feed. Will give that mixture a try sometime and report back. Think I will try another location next time. Leggets Lake has been quiet last few times, although the carp were lively on the surface yesterday and I saw a few 5lb+ being landed nearby. __________________ Sion&Robyn Float & feeder - Lakes nr. | Re: Reaching next level up from tiddlers? i was out saturday on the jubilee river maidenhead, i tossed in about 50+ big halibut pellets and a few tutti fruitti pellets, left it for a while and noticed lots of fish in the swim, carp rolling on the suface and a few smaller fish jumping out of the water. I caught a very small gudgeon hhaaaa __________________ Feel free to check out my photo's www.facebook.com/saladdodgerphotography Twitter: UKAndyWilliams |

| Re: Reaching next level up from tiddlers? sion, another sort of bait, for better roach, blend a loaf to a fine crumb, add 1/2 pt hemp at the bankside and mix, feed 1/2 golfball size balls, 2 to start, then as bites dry up, add another, also feed a pinch of loose hemp at the same time fish bread punched over the top or casters hooked at the fat end, again 2" off bottom, put your bottom shot at least 6" or more from the hook, this allows the hookbait to sink slowly as it settles. this method takes time to get the fish going, but its worth the effort in the end. sometimes they become preoccupied with the hemp, then use hemp on the hook. good luck __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |
