Making a throwing stick out of an old rod handle section

While clearing out my tackle a few years ago I found an old handle section of an old fibreglass match rod; the tip section had long since been broken making it useless.
Instead of throwing it away I decided to make a throwing stick out of it so that I could cast out loosefed maggots/caster/corn etc. one handed while still holding the rod or Pole in the other hand.

It turned out to be fairly useful and kept the loosefeed tightly bunched; so I thought I would show how I made the throwing stick on the ‘Fishing Tips & Rigs’ section of this Forum incase someone else also had a broken rod that they were otherwise going to throw out.

I made one of them Keith - chucked it out to sea for the dog but he never brought it back

Yes I use a curved one when carping for firing out boilees at distance but this ones for throwing a few casters or maggots close in, up to around 10 to 15 mtrs max, not for throwing 30 or 50 mtrs.

I have an old match fishing book at home with a picture of the author (Ken Giles I think it is) using a straight one just like it for throwing his loosefeed out in a match, which is why I tried making one.

It is a bit better than the Maggie-Pult that Bob Nudd sold a few years ago (for firing out maggots one-handed while holding his Pole in his other arm) which threw the bait the same distance (10 to 15 mtrs) but made an almighty bang each time you used it.

ahhhhhh i see just seemed strange as i got 2 curved ones, wouldnt of thought straight would work as bend gives power and accuracy.

made mine from some cistern overflow pipe 20" long, then a piece of polystyrene, push pipe into poly, (cuts the poly as you push it through) then just push poly to depth you want, simples.
