| Re: pole jargon Hi dl880, As Chris said a ‘top 2’ or a ‘top 3’ consists of the top 2 or 3 sections of a Pole elasticated. Usually a Pole angler carries several top 2’s and top 3’s each threaded with various different strength elastics to use with the different strength lines he or she may use. You can buy ‘top 2’s or ‘top 3’s from a tackleshop which can be cut back to fit most poles, or if you are prepared to pay a little bit more you can sometimes buy ones that are made to fit a specific Pole. They are not that expensive so it is a good Idea to carry two or three, or even more if necessary. A 'top 3' has elastic through 3 sections therefore will be better for larger fish which will stretch your elastic more however if you are fishing for average sized silvers then a 'top 2' would usually be fine. Anyway hope this has helped and welcome to the forum. | Re: pole jargon I usually carry mine 'folded' in small see-through plastic tubes marked with the elastic strength that I have threaded. You usually buy them already in small see-through protective tubes; however you can buy the tubes seperately (empty) from a decent tackle shop. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |

| Re: pole jargon When folding a TOP 2 make sure you fit a pole elastic protector - this prevents the elastic from being cut/worn when stored. Like these :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-x-BRAND-...item460038e106 There's loads on ebay - the pointy ends fit inside each wall of the sections & the elastic sits on the curved groove, keeping the elastic off the sharp edges. My TOP 2 is folding , but as chris says a lot are telescopic so a protector is'nt required. __________________ Fishing - the best fun you can have with your clothes on. |
