Bait prep

Bait Prep

When preparing baits I like to use addictive and flavours, this then makes the baits different to what the fish are used for. It is very good for big weary carp. The main baits I flavour is chum mixer, bread, paste and sweet corn. Here is how to do this.

Chum mixers

You will need chum mixer, flavouring, a hole less plastic bag, dye, a teaspoon, old cup and warm water.

1.You will need to ad roughly 2 pints of chum mixer into a plastic bag
2.You then add 2 tea spoon of dye into the bag.(any colour you want)
3.You then blow into the bag, twist it and shake for 1-2 mins
4.To add the flavour you need to add one teaspoon to a cup of warm water and stir
5.Add the stirred water to the plastic bag (this is why its helps not to have any holes in the bag) evenly and shake for 5 mins
6.in 5 mins time after you stop shaking you will have a ready prepared bait.

Bread

1.With a tin loaf cut of the bottom of the loaf roughly 3/ of an inch thick
2.With the base break it up into pieces roughly the size of a 10p piece
3.Once this is done add the flavouring to a sandwich bag
4.Scruntch the bag up distribute the flavour through the bag
5.Now add the bread, blow into the bag and shake for 2 mins
6.After 2mins let the air out and remove any air in the bag and seal
7.Once sealed freeze the bread over night and in the morning let the bread thaw out. This will then suck in all the flavour.

With a loaf do the same but don’t break it up.

Cheese paste
To make a cheese paste you will need
Large mixing bowl
Cheese grater
A block of puff pastry
1/2 lb of mature cheddar
1/2 lb of Danish blue
Dye
Powder paletant
Smelly cheese flavour

The 1st stage is to grate the puff pastry block into a bowl followed by the cheddar and Danish blue. You then add the dye and paletant 1 teaspoon of each and mix it all together. With the flavour you add this by adding one teaspoon into a cup with about 1 6th of water in it. You then pour this over the mix and start to make the cheese into a ball removing any lumps. This is why you don’t want to much water. After there are no lumps the bait is ready. The good thing with this is that you can freeze and refreeze this as many times as you want.

Any questions just ask

Re: Bait prep

Nice write up again tj!

Later on I'm going to flavour up some chum mixers for next friday.

Do you know how long they roughly keep the flavour/colour for until it goes back, or doesn't it?

Re: Bait prep

I dont really know the answer to that one. What i normaly do is make the bait up the night before i go fishing and its still as smelly and dyed. The colour will stay but as for the smell 2-4 days i would guess.
