Canal Fishing Tips?

Hello.

I do all of my fishing at the local canal. I have never caught anything over 3 pounds, and that was a roach!

My dad 2 years back caught a 25 pound common carp fishing on the bottom on a single grain of sweetcorn.

Has anyone got any great tips for me that will increase my catching rate? Being honest I get bored sometimes and just fish at the edge where the Perch are. A few days back I caught 10 half llb Perch in under an hour, but they seem not to be biting recently.

I use maggot and float, but will be buying a new fishing set shortly, which will be allowing me to ledger again.

Anyone got any fantastic tips for me?

Re: Canal Fishing Tips?

I fished the ship canal a lot when i was younger with my dad. If your after the pike the best spot we found was behind kellogs in trafford park. It pumps warm water out into the canal all year which attracts the bait fish in the winter, which in turn attracts the pike.
If your fishing for silvers we always fished at the bottom of the first drop off where any natural food would gather.
We have had some really good days doing this. Hope it helps.
