spool line tangles :o(

hello,
my daughter has problems with a new reel that came loaded with line, when she opens the bale arm to cast out, more often than not the line seems to spring of the reel creating tangles, Its all new reel, new line, but i fear its cheap line.
Any help would be nice, as my daughter is getting frustrated, she is only 7, but she loves fishing.
thanks
mik

Re: spool line tangles :o(

It could be that the reel is overfilled. If it is filled to the rim then it is overfilled and some line needs to be removed so that it's a few mm under the rim.
Hope this helps.

Re: spool line tangles :o(

It looks like the line is of a big breaking strain and diameter and not of a good quality . . This tends to'curl' . I'm guessing that she intends to catch small fish at first then later put us all to shame . Consider changing line to suit her fishing or try getting her to hold the rod and you walk away holding the line until the spool is near empty and then ask her to reel in .Keep the line under tension ,this should give a even line lay on the spool and eliminate some problems. Never let the spool fill until its level with the edge of the spool . For the distance she can cast it would be better underfilled slightly.

Re: spool line tangles :o(

thanks guys, i think it is filled to full, its more than level with the edge of the spool, i will take some off, the reel came with 2 extra spools so i will put 2lb and 4lb line on the 2 spools.
whats the deal with washing up liquid, i heard somewhere to put that on the line? any truth in that?

hi mik
Washing up liquid is used to help sink the line . Not really neccesary for your fishng I think .

It's great to see you encouraging a future angler there mate. It's frustrating at times but isn't it just worth it all when their faces light up? It's even better when they have that smile that says "Look dad , and I caught mine on this cheap whip, not that pole you got ".... Nice one!

Re: spool line tangles :o(

hey thanks for the encouragment, i got some photos of my littlegirl with some goodtench which has that smile on her face, she just loves the day out fishing, she knowsall the fish we catch, she knows how to un hook, how to handle them and put them back properly, every saturday she wants to go fishing, and this has been going on now since easter, so i must be doing something right lol.
i teach her to respect nature, and to love the world and everything in it, dunno what will come of it, but i hope she will be a voice in standing up for nature in future years.
