Reel Line Clips - Repair

I have broken the plastic line clips off my reels over the last few years and have come up with a very good repair.

When cliiping down and getting my rig inches from the bank / island I have sometimes caught the bank / island by mistake. Usually because of leaning or casting at a slightly different angle. Then to get my rig and line out I have pulled hard and forgoten that the line is in those light plastic clips in the reel. The end result is the plastic clip pings off "snapped" and then that spool is no good for clipped down work.

I looked at buying spare spools or just the clips and decided to try a home repair.

What I came up with is simple. Take a plastic coated paper clip and cut it down. Bed it to form a clip shape and bend the end over 90 degrees. Remove what is left of the line clip and replace with the section of paperclip. For the bit that goes inside the spool make a slight twist and glue in place with epoxy. The plastic coating means it is rust free and very gentle on the line in the clip. They are supper strong and peform really well. I find them easier to clip the line into than those plastic ones fitted to the reels. You can give the cast a good thump or pull out off a snag without worrying about the clip breaking off.

Just thought would pass this on as a handy tip that saves a good few quid. For the carp angler who is fixed with colours then paperclips come in all different colours. Prefer red on mine!

Re: Reel Line Clips - Repair

Great tip.

Thanks I might try that on one of my spools that I have a problem with.
