Being caught out by cray fish

I've been trying to fish the river in Buckingham for chub or anything that will take my bait. I'm ledgering on a quivertip rod but keep getting bites from damn cray fish.

Any tips on how to keep the cray fish away?
Thanks

rock hard baits
use a bait protector

or use some old tights to wrap your bait in .

Re: Being caught out by cray fish

Could you explain how this works?

Surely the cray fish would still attack your bait even if in tights. Also if you put some sort of guard around the boilie how is the fish going to take it?

Thanks

Re: Being caught out by cray fish

fish your baits on a hair rig mate . simples

How many times have you caught a fish using a hair rig and the bait is in its mouth . fish go for the smell of the bait more than the sight of it ,

you can also use large bore shrink wrap , use a bait dip after.

I have fished on hair rigs before but I still caught crayfish... This river is notoriously bad for them.

i have fished waters like that ! I have known the little feckers to pull down a 10 in hook link to get at the bait ,
edit
bury your stop into the bait , helps to stop them pulling the bait off
use braid hook links not mono
also try fruit flavoured bait ( not fishmeals) and or plastic baits , dont over feed your swim ,

take a good pan with you as these make cracking eating ,
Only take if signals

Believe it or not I went down one weekend equipped with a pike rod, treble hook, 3 boilies and a large bucket.

I came come with the bucket full and had them for Sunday lunch - and you're right... they are delicious :-) My missus old man has a license to trap them and he eats them all the time.
