Plumbing the depth tip

Dont know if this is been said before but i picked up a great tip from my local tackle shop today. He told me to use a cheap whip and have it set up ready ( with the plumb ) and when you have the required depth a quick measure on the ground against your rod and away you go. You can also have it set again for a margin depth so you can go straight away again without having to splash about a 2nd time. Just wanted to share this, hope its correct lol, i will test this out sunday on my next outing.
