Adding weights to spoons -good idea?

Hi there I am using a Mepps Aglia 1 spoon for perch fishing from the pier on a lake but am not having much success with longer casts as the spoon is very light.

Do I-

- Purchase a new heavier balanced spoon from the shop?
- Add a normal weight of 10-20gms before the spoon rig?

I guess I am concerned that the action of the spoon will suffer if I tie anything between the spoon and my main line. Any help much appreciated.

Donīt ya mean spinnerbait?Small spinnerbaits like mepps aglia 0 and 1 are usually used with UL rods and reels..I have tried that to but extra weight on the main line, but you can acst it longer , it will not really affect the game, but, you donīt get fish with that, i havenīt..
