Using bought pole rigs

I have just started pole fishing using bought pole rigs and am not sure what to do with the length of the rig line. If I connect it to the elastic and plumb the depth, I can be left with quite a distance between the pole tip and the float. Am I supposed to shorten the line? If I do that then I cannot use that rig in deeper water. It may be a stupid question but please advise

Re: Using bought pole rigs

Hi Tezza

i tie a peice of heaver line on in deeper swims. altho be carefull if your float has a inserted metal eye it may get stuck on the knot. if so take the float off the rig and thred it on the heaver line using the float rubbers only, then tie together.
Hope this helps ya

Regards

Jonah
