Re: floats and stupid coachs

Hi
They are slightly heavy but depends on the depth you are fishing.I tend to match my floats to the depths....i.e .2g=2feet,.3g=3feet,.4g=4feet etc etc I would say your pole is probably a whip with no elastic fitted so the line is attached straight to the end via a loop and 2 pieces of rubber tubing. You must of course take into account the wind which can also affect the size of float you use....just remember to make the line the same length as the pole/whip

Re: floats and stupid coachs

The heaviest you should be looking at is 1gm.This will give you enough weight to swing the float and bait out with 4 metres of line if its windy. If its calm go for a 0.5g float

Re: floats and stupid coachs

also depends on the size of fish you are catching, a small roach and perch wont give a clear bite on a 4 gram float. baits like heavy pellets, luncheon meat and paste will drag a light float under giving false bites. its all a question of balance and working out what suits your style best.

Re: floats and stupid coachs

As you are using a whip I doubt you will be fishing for big fish so stick to the maggot, breadpunch or other small baits for small fish.

Re: floats and stupid coachs

I can't help thinking that the coach should have explained about different styles of pole floats, and what they are used for in conjunction with baits. Oh dear made that sound complex.
Have a look on e-bay or amazon for a book on pole fishing by dave coaster, or coastar, its illustrated in a stlye similar to the classic crabtree book, but a good guide to differnt floats and the uses in differnet situtuations.
