floats and stupid coachs

hi im new to fishing and i have alot of questions to ask. but just one for now. i went fishing and a coach said to me that my float was to heavy so i got 2 new ones. the first is 1.6 grams and the other 1.8 grams. are these the right weight for fishing with my 4 meter pole
